I donated for Christmas an iphone 5s to a family member.
Do you still have iOS 9.3.3 installed, you should update it to iOS 10.2 or slow down? Thanks

I use an iPhone 5S for work and it has the latest update on it. Aside from the occasional lags with the fingerprint reader, the phone stands up pretty good. Worth an update for sure in my opinion.

I upgraded mine before I replaced it with a 7 and it worked OK. If you have an older Mac you hook it up too running an older OS you'll want to be careful. It could lock you out of iTunes. Performance wise, though it works just fine.

My old 5s is running 10.2.1 beta 2 just fine. Battery life is as good or slightly better than 9.3.5 was I reckon, but the phone is very slightly more laggy in general use if I had pick between iOS 9 and iOS 10. Nothing really drastic though, the 5s runs iOS 10 ok.

Gave my old 5s to my kid. Had issues setting it up and had to dfu restore, which 10.2 and it runs fine.

What worries me is if it had to have slowdowns like the iphone 4s with iOS9.
is typing in the keyboard fluid?
I have seen on YouTube a comparison between iOS 9.3.5 and iOS 10.2 and it does not seem to me there is a big difference in performance.

The exact same thing happened to me! I cannot figure out how to get past this issue now.

You'll get the occasional lag with the keyboard I'm sure but the pros outweigh the cons with something like that.

If you want jailbreak then don't update. Otherwise, you should be safe to do so.

The battery will drain faster if upgrade, but if often clear software cache, update is ok. :)
