Iphone 6 doesn't recognise MacBook Pro 10.14.6 via USB

First post and brand new to this forum, should be a simple fix?
My Iphone 6 doesn't recognise my MacBook Pro (10.14.6) via USB but charges happily from wall and powerbank.
I have tried different cables and restarted both devices..anything I should know?

Different USB ports? Also, if you use a dock station try connecting it directly instead.

I'm plugging directly and have tried both USB ports and no success.
Might bite the bullet soon and find the cash for an X...

Try updating macOS just in case if there's any update for Mojave. If not test on another computer to verify if it's your Mac or device.

And yeah, 6 is quite a veteran now... If you're out of cash take a look at 8, it's still good and should be cheaper than X.
