My wife's iPhone was submerged in water for about 10 minutes unfortunately. After drying it out, everything works except the home button. The finger print sensor works though.

Is there a way to resolve this? or will I have to take it to Apple?

Thanks

The water likely damaged a component in which determines the actions of the home button when you click it. Apple is likely your only solution at this point.

Check repair costs before ordering the repair, and compare the repair cost with the value of the phone.
A correct value can easily be calculated, just take the average price for a second hand phone on eBay.

Thanks guys, I ended up buying her an iPhone 7 with a two year contract instead. She's happy with her flashy new rose gold 7 and I will fiddle with the 6 to see if I can get it working or find a place to fix the home button.
