On our way back home yesterday my girlfriends iPhone has seemingly fell off the map. We were listening to a podcast and she said that her phone would need to be charged soon as it had 9%. We stop at a gas station and get her cord from the trunk and when she gets back in, she realizes that it shut off while in the gas station. Odd as it had 9% but she plugs it in. It hangs on the boot screen for awhile and freezes. She does a soft reboot (power+home buttons) and then it went to the cord plugged in charge screen. After that, and now it doesn't even give anything on the screen regardless how long you push the power button, whereas before you'd get the "I'm dead as a door nail" screen. I tried plugging it in and seeing if it popped up in itunes and it doesn't. It doesn't even register with the computer.

So my initial thoughts are, it's dead dead. No juice in the battery. But is the charge port not working and therefore when we plug it in, nothing is happening? I don't know of a way to check current draw through the cable without hacking one up.

Is this something either the carrier or the Apple store can pinpoint? Has this happened to anyone else?

The phone is less than a year old, is there a mfg warranty against defective devices? No AppleCare, and if they can tell me what it is, I have no problem attempting to replace it. Done a couple screens, so the innards don't scare me.

iPhones come with a 1 year replacement warranty. Call Apple immediately to get this resolved!

Brought into the Apple store and they couldn't figure out what was wrong with it either, so we've got a replacement on the way. Thanks!
