Hi, I noticed a line on my iPhone a few days ago and today I noticed that the screen is a bulge near the volume buttons. I looked online and a few said that it probably is a battery issue, can anyone confirm this or know what the cause is?? Will there be any long term damage done if I keep using it for a while before bringing it to a shop to fix? Much appreciated!

I am not that sure since my iPhone 6 still works fine as a spare device, the best solution is to visit an Apple center and have it check. It will also be best to get a new device if that's the case.

If the screen is bulging even slightly is a sign of a swelling battery. This happens to all Li-Ion batteries when the chemicals inside the battery are imbalanced or stressed. Observed mostly to old batteries, batteries that have been stressed too much like exposure to extreme temperatures.

This is easily remedied by replacing the battery. The screen should fit back to its case once the battery is replaced. You can opt to go to the Apple store but it's going to be quite costly.

I replaced my battery myself and bought the battery from sanditech on Amazon. It's been 8 months now on my 6s Plus and health is 96%. Which is pretty good since I'm a heavy user.

Tons of videos on youtube to watch for battery replacements. Check it out.

I get the sense that the OP isn’t that experienced in taking apart small electronics. While replacing the iphone6 battery is very straightforward, I’d hesitate in suggesting that they do it themselves, especially with a potentially bulging battery. If you snap the adhesive strips, you’re looking at prying the battery out, which could be an issue with an already bulging battery.

i would take it to an Apple store for an OEM replacement. It’s $50 in the US, but the battery quality is top notch. Amazon batteries are a crapshoot.
