Iphone 6 No Alerts

I have an Iphone 6 and I do not get alerts for calls or texts if my screen is dark. If my screen is on I get calls and texts. I have tried to reset and restore it with no success. I have check notifications and they are on.

Do you have Do Not Disturb turned on? Is their a crescent moon in your status bar?

Check the silent switch by the volume buttons.
