Hi! i just got from us.. and my uncle gave me his brandnew iphone 6 (at&t and still in contract) as a present, we went to the apple store, he bought it as an upgrade but kept his old cellphone for himself and gave the newone.. he didnt even put the sim card in the new one.. I already tried to unlock it and the guy told me he couldnt do it and gave me my money back.. and somewhere around here i read it couldnt be done without first activating it with and at&t simcard.. is that true? is there anything i can do?

Are you outside of the USA? I am not sure if it has to be activated through AT&T first, but Chances are it's locked to AT&T anyway and it's sounds like you are not in the USA. If this is a legit not stolen phone, ave your uncle request an unlock through AT&T. If they deny the unlock have him request again until it's unlocked.

Im in Colombia.. I think we cant request that to at&t because he still has a 2 year contract.. It is still locked.. but my question is.. can I pay a third party to unlock it.. even if we didnt activate it?
