So, this has happened twice now, I wake up in the morning and my phone will be red hot and the battery will be on 1%. It's not plugged in so I can't figure out why it would be so hot. Any ideas? In the last 24 hours it says home and lock screen has used 40 odd percent, and my diagnostics and usage is almost entirely awdd, I've turned off the automatic diagnostics in the hopes this will fix it.
Edit- Sorry bout the typo...
Hi Skupski,
We should check to see if the issue is a software issue or a hardware related one. To do this, we're going to start by checking the software issue as it's the quickest to check, and the easiest (sort of) to resolve.
Navigate to the Settings app on your iPhone, and go to the "Battery" section. Scroll all the way down to the bottom of this screen, and you will see two rows. The first "Usage" and the other "Standby". If they are similar, say 7 hours of usage and 8 hours of Standby, that's an issue. If it's 1 hour of Usage and 8 hours of standby time, that's something else.
If the two times are similar, go back to the main Settings app, and go to the "General" tab. Scroll down until you get to the Reset section, and tap on that. What you're going to do next is click on "Reset All Settings". Ensure you have a proper backup before doing this, incase the device encounters and error and needs to be restored.
Resetting all settings will not delete your personal data, pictures, texts, or apps, but it will reset things like WiFi passwords, background wall paper, screen brightness, Touch ID, etc. The point of this reset is to try and correct a potentially corrupted system configuration file that is causing something to run wild in the background.
Once you've reset your device, give it a two days to watch your device and see if this issue occurs again. If it does, contact AppleCare (1-800-APL-CARE) or go to your local Genius Bar (
www.apple.com/retail) and have them run diagnostics on your device.
