Hi. I already have my Gmail account working fine on my iPhone 5S. However, when I try to add the same account to my 6 Plus using the Mail app, as soon as I enter the details it simply jumps back to the first screen where you choose Gmail, Yahoo etc. Both devices are running iOS 8.4 and there is two-step verification on the Gmail account. Ideas? Thanks.

i'd probably do a reset. no problem here with the ip6+, both for google app for enterprise, and the free version, and all of them have 2 factor.

If I remember correctly, with the two-step auth you need a special one time use password generated from your account.

Also..did you try turning it on and off again?

I'm having the same issue. It's only happening on one account. (I have 4 gmail addresses). This one was a corporate address which has just been migrated to another server. I did have 2-factor turned on originally but this gone turned off after migration.
Trying to log in have the same response as in the OP. I have since switched 2-factor back on and now it asks for my 2nd password so it's obviously logging in correctly it's just not giving the correct options to add the account to the mail app. It's very annoying.

For months Mail.app on my work MBP has been eating CPU, with a corporate MSX and several gmail IMAP accounts configured. Some sources spoke of removing / characters from labels using the gmail web interface, so I messed with those a few weeks ago.

Two days ago my phone stopped getting timely if any updates for the one gmail IMAP account I most use, the one using my own domain. Today I removed it entirely and tried to re-add it, with the above symptoms.

I went back into the web gmail interface and found that a label had somehow reappeared with a / or \. I removed that and the iOS setup now behaves as expected, though it remains to be seen whether mail will work normally again. It's still spinning on "checking for mail".

I've about had it with Google's bizarre-ass nonstandard IMAP presentation. Just need to find a workable alternative.

I've never had an issue and I've had a gmail account in the Mail app since December 2011 across four iPhones.

i'm having exact same problem now on iPhone5 and have already authenticated via 2-Step Auth.

There's been some time between my last post on this message so here is what I think.

You say you have 2FA on for Google email? You probably need an app password then. Get one from Google and use that as your password to add the email account.
