hey guys I just received my brand new iPhone 6 plus and it seems to be stuck on "Restoring from backup" although everything seems fine and all my apps are back and fully installed. I've rebooted several times with no success. I know it's still restoring because it says so on both my lockscreen and the OTA update screen which asks me to wait for restore to be over. It's been hours and my internet speed is 120mbits/s.

What can I do? I'm considering calling apple but I assume I'll have to wait a very long time before speaking to someone these days.

I'm on iOS 8.0.

I manually stopped mine. Go to settings iCloud Backup and stop restore. I then connected my iPhone 6 plus to iTunes with a cable to finish the restore. If to want then go back to the same settings and do a iCloud backup from your iPhone.

I just want to comment about wait times. I had issues upgrading to iOS 8 on my 4S a few days ago - the file downloaded but did not install properly and dumped my phone into recovery mode, from which I could not restore it for over 40 hours as the software would not download properly.

I had 3 or 4 chats with Apple Support online and the wait time there was only 2-3 minutes. After the last one I was given the local (Australian) number to call for support, which I had to call twice. Again the wait time was around 2 minutes. And it's not just because it was an Australian support line - the first guy I talked with was an Aussie but the second was from New Mexico. I have nothing but praise for the people I dealt with, and despite not having Apple Care or anything like that, it never cost me a cent.

This was during the whole drama with iOS 8/8.0.1/8.0.2 as well so they had to have been busy. Yet over a period of two days at various times, I barely had to wait for assistance. So don't hesitate to contact them, just keep your case number handy as you may need to call them back.

I've always had better luck updating the software on my iPhones from my computer rather than over the air. And I always backup to my computer than to the cloud (yes, not an option for some people).

The restore from backup to my new iPhone 6 had a few hiccups and I had to restart the restore 3 times before it stopped "hanging" mid way thru. I've been told not to update directly to the iPhone from a "slow" DSL WiFI connection as it will most always fail. Hence, doing the update from the computer lessons that problem. DSL= 2.6 mbps down even less up!
