The rumors of this week makes the Galaxy S5 seem like a terribly disappointing phone for 2014..I mean wow samsung using inferior finger scan technology in a 2014 phone... When the iPhone of 2013 uses a innovative finger print reader. But.....if apple does not increase the screen size for the next iPhone that will be a huge risk to not have different screen sizes for people. But once apple makes the iphone screen bigger..It's going to be the number one phone for 2014

Since when is the phone's quality determined by its finger scan technology?

Since it's useless if it has toooooo many cons like for it to just simply work..It would be annoying to do so much and take so long just to unlock a phone. It is not worth it if it takes more than 8 seconds to unlock the phone when if typing a passcode only takes 1-3 seconds. But iPhone finger print sensor works in less than 2 seconds. And the Galaxy S5 will still have the 1080 display...sure it's not important to put a 2k on it yet but its not a big improvement from the galaxy s4 so the next iphone will be truly innovative with the cool solar power.

Solar power? Nothing like rumors..and not even credible or slightly credible rumors..

Still, I find iPhone's superior to Samsung's phone regardless.

For me the iPhone 5S is already superior to whatever Samsung releases in their S5. I have no interest in their phones nor any of their other products.

The iphones "innovative" finger print reader is embarrassing to say the least, it's performance is so freakin poor. If I didn't know any better it feels like 1984 technology, not 2013 technology.

I think too many people judge how "innovative" a phone is by how many pixels it pushes, or how many cores its processor has. Real innovation will be in battery life, input, things like foldable screens, etc, and we haven't seen much real "innovation" in quite a while IMO.

There is also solidness/reliability and that's something the iphone has going for it, it just "works". If apple simply capitalizes on this and makes a larger screen as an option possibly increasing battery life in the process, and improving current things like the *****ty fingerprint sensor that's good enough for me, at least for this round of smartphones.

What a useless thread, there are no facts on either phone so what is the point of calling either inferior to the other when no actual facts are known.

I am not going to throw around the word "innovative" because I think it is overused. But calling it 1984 tech is a bit of a stretch, no?

If I recall properly, you had some issues while doing construction and the reader not working (no I am not a stalker lol. Your avatar is memorable though). If anything, this is a good thing, because it is realizing that your print has altered. But that's not even my point here.

A lot of people are using the tech just fine. It isn't meant to be some scanner to get you through that final checkpoint into the POTUS's underground bunker. It's nice that you don't have to type the four digit pin in every time you want to unlock (a password protected) phone. Can it be tricked? Probably. Maybe. But not by Johnny on the street who picks your pocket or finds your phone on the seat on the train.

As far as this new rumor is concerned, one needs to drag their finger down on the reader to get a reader (regarding to SGS5). It's difficult to say without seeing/using the device, but that just sounds awful. For one it sounds slow (at least compared to the 5S). It also seems like it would be pretty cumbersome to do with one hand simply because of the positioning of the button. I am not one of those guys one the "OMG Androids are too big for my tiny baby pants and jeans that are six sizes too small" folks. Just try dragging your finger down on even your 5S. It won;t exactly fall out of your hand, but it feels unnatural and not something I would want to be doing multiple times a day. At the very least, my drop risk has been vastly increased.

so you're deciding which phone will be better based on rumors? how old are you?

That's exactly what happens here around the time a new iPhone is on the horizon... I guarantee you age is irrelevant.

Oh my, your Apple bias is showing. :)

Nothing factual, all speculation and personal preference.

Luckily for the rest of us we are free to decide for ourselves _after_ these two phones are actually on the market.

hehe, baby pants!!! Yeah the fp sensor on the iphone has not been functioning well for me, but in all fairness I suspect a hardware defect. I program a fingerprint, it works well right away, but then in the future (hours or days later) it is very hard to get it to work. I have seen this exact same complaint a million times now on forums and the internet, so maybe there are a lot of hardware failures out there, or maybe the fp sensor does truly suck, I don't know.

I don't have a problem dragging a finger down on my iphone one handed, I do it all the time to check notifications or to adjust quick settings, but then again I'm not one of those guys that says "OMG iphones are too big for my little baby hands and fingers!" :):):)

Hehe but seriously, I love the fp sensor on the iphone and think it is "innovative", I just wish it worked better.

My understanding was that you have to drag the finger down on the actual home button on the bottom of the phone (I did not make this clear before). That's what I was referring to as being awkward. Is that what you are doing? If so, maybe I am just not used to it.

The problem with people (and I'm guilty of this) is they keep expecting major breakthroughs year after year. If your S4 makes you happy then why be disappointed with the s5? If you have an S3 then you shouldn't be disappointed.

Samsung's playing into this by trying to cram in one thousand half arsed features and never attempting to polish them. I love my Nexus 5 because it's simple and it works well doing what it does. The crap Samsung adds is just for marketing.

I can easily do that, but yeah I agree it's a bit unwieldy. But I don't think it much more unwieldy than using the fingerprint sensor one handed. Although if I had to choose I like the iphones way better, press once and keep your finger on the sensor to unlock.

Of course sliding your finger down to unlock may be more accurate than the iphones method, who knows. I know my old Fujitsu tablet that had a fingerprint sensor worked like that, you slid your finger across the sensor, and that was super accurate and I had that tablet 6 or 7 years ago.

Maybe you should wait for the facts before you post a thread like this.

Yep, because they are changing the name of these forums from MacRumors to MacFacts. :)

It doesn't really matter though does it? Some people like the features and simplicity of Apples Eco system and others like the relative openness and ability to customise android phones. It would be a dull old world if all of these products were exactly the same.

Instead of moving these asinine threads Mods why don't you simply close them? They are clearly nothing short of war troll fodder and serve NO purpose.......

If we are going off rumours alone, even with a bigger screen the iPhone 6 wouldn't be better than the S4, let alone the s5. Of course I have nothing to base this off, apart from imagining the 5S with a bigger screen.

Yea it's annoying how these garbage threads from the iPhone section get moved here.
I guess they think we like to get trolled?

Or the mods are trolling ?
