iPhone 6S contact reversion

In my contacts, I go and update/add/delete info under a contact. Hit save and the info looks correct. I close out of said contact. I go back into contact and old info is there - none of my edits persist. How can I fix this issue? It's frustrating.

Are you syncing your contacts with iCloud? (Settings, iCloud, Contacts)

Yes, I use the cloud.

I think what's happening is that the changes are not registering to the cloud and when you go back to look at the contact you changed, the cloud just syncs the old data back to the phone. I do all my contact changes on my iMac (syncing to the cloud) and it usually takes a while before the changes appear on my phone and the wife's.
