I'm going to go buy a 6S next week because... earphones.
Who is with me?
I'm not even slightly kidding. I like the headphones I own. I am not screwing around with a fiddly adapter to use my headphones. As a plus I can get a maxed out 6s now for a fair bit less than a 7 with a contract renewal with my current carrier.
On the negative, I really like the black iPhones and wish they met my needs.

If I could express my emotional reaction to anyone at Apple it would probably be Ive or Cook.
I kind of like Schiller for some reason. He seems reasonable. And he seems like an IT guy.
Ive just annoys me, and is so obsessed with form over function it is kind of shocking and strange.
Cook seems nice, but I am not happy with quite a lot of Apple's movements, and the buck stops with him.
Though to be fair, Google and Microsoft are behaving almost psychotic in comparison.
I do not think anyone at Apple will give a damn about my purchase. It is not a protest vote or anything like that. I am simply buying last years model because it works for me. The new one is a can of spam at vegetarian potluck.

I'm also looking for a 6s. It's the best deal going. The removal of the headphone jack is the deciding factor for me, where otherwise I would pony up for the 7.

I don't say that to slag the 7. Waterproofing, camera, battery life, eliminating the home button. There's some meaningful improvements and I think it's a great phone.

6s is getting to old. I wouldn’t buy one now. Unless it was dirt cheap.

Yes, I assume there are a lot of people who would prefer the latest iPhone over an older one with a headphone socket. (I don’t know the stats on it, but i assume it’s the majority)

Thankfully our capitalist based democracy means companies are free to choose what sockets to include, and people are free to choose between buying a phone with a headphone socket and buying a phone that needs an adaptor.

My primary consideration for selection of my phone is what works and sounds best with my headphones. (Not what looks best or has the best screen, or camera. I don’t care that much about having my phone unlocked by a face scanner.

7 and 8 doesn’t have Face ID.

But also no headphone socket. That is why I said 6S. (not 7 or 8)

As I mentioned, my primary consideration for selection of my phone is what works and sounds best with my headphones." I don't personally care if a phone has Face ID. (In fact, since you raised the matter, I would probably prefer if it didn't https://www.cnet.com/news/face-id-can-protect-iphone-x-from-thieves-but-not-the-law/)
Yea I agree with that I’d rather have Touch ID over Face ID. The X would be perfect with me with Touch ID.

To me the headphone jack and touch ID on an X would make it the best phone in the market. There is a reason I am still on a 5S as of now, hoping something comes back.

Neither of which will ever be a reality again for the iPhone. It makes zero sense for Apple to backtrack and re-introduce a feature they deleted because they don’t see the future with a 3.5 m Jack or touch ID given the implementation of the AirPods and face ID. It would be counterproductive.

I’ve been on a 6S since it was first released, and with a new battery it still runs smashing. And I guess iOS 12 will improve things.

The headphone jack is a barrier to upgrade to me. In my car I use a headphone jack and charge the phone. As far as I can tell there is no reliable adapter. They are either cheap tat from China with potentially fake reviews, or expensive will reliability issues - Belkin.

Why do people Make mountains out of molehills?
The phone comes with an adapter. You plug it into the end of the wire and leave it. You never have to take it off. Problem solved. It's that simple.

All you have to do is connect the tiny weightless adapter to headphones and you're done. You don't need to ever take it off. The only difference would be the port you plug them into the phone.
You don’t need to ever take it off... unless of course, at some point, you want to charge the battery in the thing. Oh, and if I want to have one plugged continuously into, for example, external speakers? Well, can’t really do THAT, can I?

You clearly didn't understand what I said. You don't keep the adapter plugged into the phone, you keep the adapter connected to the end of the headphone wire. There is no reason to take it off that.

But there is no reliable adapter that allows charging and using a headphone jack. The only trusted brand is Belkin, and that’s £30 for a flakey adapter.

Why are Anker, Amazon, RAV, And Apple not making these adapters? I worry that they are inherently problematic.

I thought the thread was about buying a 6S for a headphone jack.
