6S Plus has a very good CPU+GPU combo of A9 SOC. It also has 2 GB RAM. Both the SOC and RAM do compensate for the downscaling issues. The A9 is on the level of Core i3 Low power series. The GPU of A9 is even faster than those corresponding Intel chips.

But if Apple is determined to slow iOS 10 down, they can simply add few blurring or translucency effects and bam! Everything will be laggy and stuttery.

There is absolutely no guarantee whether it will slow down or perform same.

But given Apple's current track record, it will degrade in performance. How else will Apple market and sell iPhone 7?

How would anyone know anything about that at this time?
Exactly. Nobody knows exactly what will happen, but based on the general pattern, it will degrade a tiny bit if any at all. The first big update for devices generally is okay to go to. The second big update it receives though, that tends to bring about more issues. Third? Usually the last or the "Okay this is starting to suck now". Fourth? Can't get much worse. About the same for the fifth if that happens, generally a little worse as well, and so on.

I don't think so, given the improvements between 9.0 and 9.3. Things are getting better and I don't think they're going to change that.

Just updated my iphone 5 which is 3+ years old to 9.2.1 with all the bells and whistles on (like on my 6S plus) and it runs like a charm.

I only experience slowness if I try and run games on it. The screen's gone a little green along the edges but that's a different issue :)

Cheers !

Currently I am using i-OS 9.2 on my Apple 5S, and want to switch to i-10 when it is available. All the updations which I have done on my phone have only bettered it. I am pretty optimistic for upcoming i-10

That is one thing that generally sets iOS users above other OS users: hope.
Hope that things will get better.

Some probably. For most it's already at least just fine, if not better.
