Hi, I had my iPhone 6s+ battery replaced almost at the end of the Apple's battery replacement program. It think it was about 2-3 years ago. For the past few months and especially recently, even I don't use my phone often and have it mostly unused at home, the battery life is very poor after full charge. How come?

What does the battery health show in settings? 2-3 years is a decent amount of time for a better my to go through a fair bit of usage.

The battery typically can go through 1000 full cycles before falling to 80% capacity (health.) Apple doesn't deem it to be a failed battery until it reaches this point, but as you've noticed on your phone, you probably feel like your battery is failing you now. I used to see this with some of the older iPhone models, but haven't noticed this as much with newer models even at the same battery health in the mid 80's.

For future: Keep the phone within 20-80% charged as much as possible. If it sits on the charger all the time, that can hasten its demise. The phone has some smart features built in to protect the battery, but it isn't perfect.

Regardless of the cause (6S battery defect, overcharging, or just length of time) you have 2 options:
1) Get a battery replacement ($49)
2) Get a new phone (wait till October if you can for new models)

86% compared with brand new one.
That's a fairly used battery. Not completely done but also certainly below even average (let alone good). So that would certainly be playing into it all.

How long is the phone lasting you on a full charge? What does it seem like as far as what gets the most usage? What version of iOS is on it?

Could it be that Apple used less than good batteries in their replacement program?

I will keep an eye on how long it last on a full charge and what gets the most usage. I always use the latest version of iOS.

This is very unlikely if you go through official Apple channels.

Try checking your iPhone’s battery with CoconutBattery app (on your Mac) to see what its current state is:

Given the timing that has passed and the battery health it seems more or less par for the course (as the expression goes) for the battery.
