My iPhone 6s running iOS 13.5.1 mysteriously stopped getting notification sounds except for the phone ringer. If I get an e-mail or text, my phone vibrates, but there's no sound. I contacted Apple support, and they went through the basic stuff to make sure my settings are correct, and there was nothing obviously wrong, so they told me to update the OS, which I'd prefer not to do, as I'm concerned a new OS would "break" my phone.

I'd appreciate any advice you may have.

thanks! :)

Funny you're worried about iOS14 when iOS13 was a complete dumpster fire.. I don't know if updating will fix your issues but iOS14 won't break your phone anymore than iOS13 did...

I just figured that a newer OS is more likely to break my old phone, but I have another 6s (with a barely functional battery) running iOS 12, and I don't have this notification problem on that phone! The upgrade to iOS 13 was accidental, in fact.

So you think iOS 14 should be fine on a 6s?

thanks! :)

I don't know about the iPhone 6S and iOS 14 but your notification issues could be due to some sort of corruption in system files. I worked on an iPad that wouldn't ring on FaceTime calls and the only fix was a restore as new. Subsequently restoring from a backup brought the issue back.
