I recently bought iphone 6s+ and running iOS 9.2.1..Whenever I lock (sleep) my iPhone, wifi automatically disconnects and when I unlock or press power button,it automatically connects..I dont think it is any kind of feature bcoz I am having delayed notifications due to this from apps like whatsapp, gmail etc..
Is it normal behaviour from iphone?
Android have 'keep wifi during sleep' option..I am missing that badly :(
Please help anyone..

P.S. battery saver mode is off..background app refreshing is on for all apps..I even tried reset all settings and network settings..what should I do?

It's normal and like that for all iPhones.
It does it to save battery when phone is not used.
Plug it to charge and it will stay connected to wifi.
You don't have carried data on your phone?

No,I dont have data currently..
You mean to say I have to live with these delayed notifications in iphone?
At least for this, android is superior :(
Also there is no JB for iOS 9.2.1 yet :(

Yes.
Your options are get a data plan, wait for a jb, live with it, leave it plugged in to charge or turn off auto lock so the screen doesn't turn off.

Wifi does not turn off when the iPhone is locked. It may go into a Low power mode, but it does not shut off.
You should be able to get your notifications. I would have the iPhone checked.

Do you have a cellular connection that is working at the same time? It's normal behavior for WiFi to disconnect if the phone goes to sleep and you have a cellular connection, and you shouldn't be missing notifications as they should still be coming via cellular in that case.

EDIT: Seems like this is already being discussed in your other thread about this at https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/iphone-6s-wifi-disconnect-while-locked.1957465/

My 6s never disconnects when it is locked. Maybe you do not have a strong enough signal from the router?

When the iphone goes to sleep Wifi switches into a hot standby mode.
Its a feature designed to save on battery use. The phone will use wifi when it needs to when it appears to be asleep.
I agree that notifications should still come thru.

I have it disabled.
That would likely explain it as with cellular data disabled the phone will then remain on WiFi as it won't have any other data connection to fall back on if/when WiFi is disconnected.

Do you have a data option listed under your cellular settings, even though you don't have cellular data? If so, see if you can disable that and see if that would get the phone to retain its WiFi connection when it's locked.

This guy named Thomas created an app to solve this; it does it by pinging your location to keep the wifi connected. Check out the app "Constant WiFi". He seems like a pretty nice guy so I doubt the location data is used for anything.

Sounds like that would probably use up the battery a fair bit.
