I have just updated to the public beta version of iOS 11.2 and my battery drains by the minute. Do 7+ owners experience same issue? Is there is a fix other than reverting back to iOS 11.1?

If that is really the case, why doesn't Apple show a notification or progress indicator that something like indexing or scanning files is going on. Don't just do stuff like that behind our backs.
That is just bad user experience like on windows with virus scanners always slowing things down.
It’s not so much just indexing. Whenever someone installs a new OS. They typically play around with the device more than they normally would looking for new things or getting the feel for the new OS. This alone consumes more battery life but one doesn’t really notice it. Everyone does this, whether you realize it or not.
Also if the OP just installed it, it’s possible he has not fully charged the device since installing it. Battery drain is not linear, which can give the impression the battery is dropping faster than it actually is.
There are a lot of variables besides indexing. That’s only one piece of the puzzle.
Basic computing at play here. Has been the reality of computers and updates for a long time. Why feign outrage of some sort?
My device has been plugged in all night because it took hours to finish downloading the update so during installation, my phone was at 100% until I unplugged the charger. I then tinkered with it for "few" minutes then left the phone on my desk still at 100%. Bluetooth and WiFi were turned off. Background refresh, push email and location services were likewise turned off. 2 hours thereafter, I checked my phone and the battery dropped 4%. I went to battery settings and I noticed that the battery usage and the battery standby were the same (1h 46m) which is weird because I didn't use my phone that long after unplugging it from the charger. I observed that the battery standby and the battery usage are exactly the same NO MATTER WHAT.
Hours to update? Why? My iPhone and iPad both updated in a combined 15 minutes. That was right when the update was released
Okay well that means your phone is indexing. You cannot judge any battery life within 24 hours at a minimum of install. That’s a minimum.
So should I drain my phone til it dies out and then charge to 100%? Or is this a common bug for beta version?
This is common for any iOS update. Reboot the phone. Charge back up 100% and let it sit idle and see if usage and stand by are still the same.
