I have an iPhone 7 that is 1.5 years old and its battery is still fine at around 86% according to the Battery Health in the settings app. I basically used it around 5 hours like normal over the last few days. However, after charging it yesterday, I noticed that my iPhone gets hot and battery drains very fast even when standby and even if the iPhone is turned off/shutdown. For me, it seems that the battery cannot hold a charge all of a sudden. But it can still be charged, it still turns on, it functions normally, and even recognized by iTunes. It is just that the battery drains very fast and the phone gets hot.
Unfortunately, my iPhone is already out of warranty, and I do not have any Apple Retail stores near me. However, there are iPhone repair shops. I told them the problem, and they said it is a problem with the Power IC or the Power Management Integrated Circuit (PMIC), and it needed to be replaced through a new motherboard. They also said that the battery was not an issue.
Now, I want to ask you guys is it really a battery issue or a PMIC issue, or have you experienced any of these with your iPhone. Did you get your battery replaced and solved the issue? or did you get your PMIC replaced and solved the issue? I kinda have doubts on the PMIC if it is really the issue, as the phone is still turning on when charged. I might be wrong, but I never had a clear explanation as to why repair shops say it is a PMIC issue.
Thank you and have a good day!
