It's best to put the phone on the charger during an update. All you did is drain the battery while the phone was doing heavy lifting.

Amazing how it takes less time to create a new thread than to search this topic to find the answer that has been asked a million plus times.

i dont have a problem - I've not updated to iOS11, but the community spirt is getting pretty crappy with the tone of peoples replies and general combative attitude on display all the time whenever a question is asked..

Where is the question being asked in this thread? This thread is a statement, not a question. It's a statement that has been asked/answered a million times (likely LITERALLY a million times) already. I think people just get tired of the refusal of people to SEARCH rather than create a new post and trash up the forums.

Heads up, been on this build for a week, it doesn't improve.

I've been on the GM build since it was out and it has worked just fine. Either flash directly from IPSW or restore fresh and stop upgrading from old installs. Apple isn't magic (as much as they want to claim they are), their software needs to be refreshed every now and then.

How is this predictable?
You come to this board asking for advice, then ignore the advice given by everyone here and continue to complain.

Like I said before I've been running iOS 11 for a week now, after 24hours the battery stabilizes. You have to understand you put a new operating system on your device. It needs to reindex everything, this isn't an incremental update. Once your device indexes completely you will notice the battery stabilizes back to normal.

Right now your device is doing a lot of background work. Rebooting only stops that temporarily until it can finish. Give it some time 24 hours then reboot and you're good to go. You may not even need to reboot at all just depends on your preference of clearing RAM and temp files.

The point is a valid one and was wider than this single thread. You (global you, not you personally) don't have to open the thread, you don't have read it, you don't have to reply. It's becoming the same in all threads, if you have an opinion that's not following or praising apple you're automatically labelled an Android, Windows, or X fanboy and you only come here to troll regardless of if you own apple products or not. Its just tiresome.

Maybe it has trashed the battery, maybe it is "normal", i don't know unless we start a mass test, the retorts could have been less aggressive still. But if it is the case and it does happen every year, maybe apple need to also look to address it so it doesn't do this. Improvements only come if/when people speak up - assuming its related.

Maybe the answer for apple is re-indexing only happens when the device is attached to a charger...

Like a lot of other people in this thread have already said, give it some time to reindex and cache everything. If after a few hours — or even days — it's still draining your battery, try tweaking some of the usual suspect settings that you could live without and use low power mode when you can (it's easy to access in the Control Center now).

Just updated to iOS 11. Had 100% battery life. Updated to iOS 11. Battery at 85% - figured it would happen because that's what happens when tech has an update - it relies on battery.

Not even 5 minutes into using the phone, percentage is down to 65%. The lag on the iPhone 7 is terrible. Hell, I will likely now try to see how to get an iPhone 8 just so the battery drain isn't so bad.

The iOS 11 update on the iPad Pro (9.7) is awesome. It's like a whole new experience.

The OS has to reindex whole filesystem and run post-install routines, that necessarily requires some power... :)

I updated my iPadPro 10.5 earlier with no problems via iTunes, since it is working so well I have my iPhone 7+ updating now. :) I normally wait a day or two but I haven't seen any sign of a major problem on these boards so I decided to give it a go.
iPadPro 12.9 first edition in line next.

Updates just go so much faster and trouble free through iTunes than over the air. iPhone is nearly done and I started it just a few minutes before typing this post.

I will wait with High Sierra though since I just started a new Corel Painter class and history tells me to wait for the Painter 18 service pack.

Was that you practicing for a 1980's afternoon school special? Because that was some kinda drippy nonsense!! :)

Spent half hour posting on the forum on my iPhone and an hour on iPad, and the battery % didn’t change.

Clear user error on OP end.

I am not saying that others are not having valid battery issues just reporting my personal experience. I charged mine immediately after updating and have played with it off and on all evening and the battery is still at 98%. Both iPads are doing just fine as well. I have to say this was the quickest, least troublesome update I have ever done, basically seamless except for a small glitch with Procreate 4 that was quickly and easily remedied.

If you were an android user. Android device would have told you to have a fully charged battery or keep your phone plugged in to a charger during an OS upgrade/update.

Point is....use your brain or common sense. There are no trophies for ignorance.

So far I see no difference in battery life at all since the update. This iPhone 7+ is my first iPhone and after Android and Note 5 I am still in awe of the battery life. After years of Android it is amazing to have a phone where the battery doesn't discharge at all if you are not actively using it. I was in the habit of turning my Note off when I went to bed, now I leave the iPhone on all the time and still get easily twice the battery life of the Note.
