I am now on Sprint's iPhone Forever plan, and I was wondering how this works. I have the 6s now, and hence the name, I suppose I get the 7 when it comes out.
My question is, when? I have had every iPhone since the 4 in 2010, and I've always ordered them online as soon as its open, so they arrive to my home on the day of release. (I may or may not also track them every step along the way... don't judge I know I'm not alone
)
So, will I be able to walk into a Sprint store on release day and get an iPhone 7? Will it be shipped to me on release day?
Or will I have to wait? Days? A week? God forbid longer?
I'm sure the answer is in the fine print somewhere, but that fine print is probably somewhere in the bottom of a desk drawer. Or the bottom of the trash can by the desk.
Well, you'll be able to upgrade to it when pre-orders are announced. Typically that's in September each year.
Your great rate (monthly payment) will go up to the regular amount ($25 or more depending on model). iPhone Forever just means you can update year to year, not that you will continue to get the same rate past your first upgrade.
You can do like any other carrier. Go to Apple, go online to Apple. Go to Sprint, go online to Sprint.
Apple will have all of Sprint's details just like all the other times. Keep in mind that like most of the carriers Apple provides a limited stock to Sprint on launch day. So, wait times for delivery could be long depending on how popular the model is.
Typical wait times once the initial stock sold out seemed to be about a month and a half after launch day this year. Which was worse than last year with the 6.
Of the four carriers Sprint has typically had the least experience selling the iPhone online and thus customer service can sometimes snafu. Happened this year, happened last year, I would not bet against it happening in 2016.
Lastly, the Sprint website folded like a cheap suit this year under the load, just like it did years previous. So, if you go the online way you might want to go to Apple's site.
In store, you will be limited to stock on hand and each store is only given a certain amount in each color and capacity. Several people in the threads here had to resort to calling around to their local Sprint stores to see if they had anything in stock. Lots of customers ended up settling for color and capacities they did not want. You can ask a store to hold phones for you, but this is Sprint so do not be surprised if those phones are not there when you arrive to pick them up.
If your local Sprint store is NOT a corporate store but a third party they won't be able to do anything for you. The third party stores doing business as Sprint are NOT Sprint and Sprint does not give them any stock of new anything within the first few months of a launch. So, if you do want to go to a store on launch day, make sure it's an actual honest to God Sprint store and not a third party store.
I'd suggest doing a search here for the main preorder thread and reading through the multiple pages therien. What you will find is fairly typical year to year with the last few pages being posts from die hards who were still waiting on delivery.
