Hi all. I previously had a 6S Plus. My first flagship phone even though i got it last year it was better than cheap Android handsets is used previously. I was very happy with it but noticed the battery wasn't lasting quite as long after ios 11.3. I started to look at "modern" Android phones and got seduced by "on paper" tech specs such as a 5,000mAh battery and same screen size and pixel density, a supposedly same specs camera etc, and for much cheaper. So i sold my iphone and went for it. Suffice it to say my lesson was hard learned. The battery lasted only slightly longer than the iphone 6s Plus despite being over 2,000mAh larger. And my Dog, Android just doesn't compare in terms of user interface, stock apps, and perhaps most importantly hardware-software optimisation which explains the battery life despite being much smaller on paper.

I love the 5.5" 16:9 screen and form factor. And i like bezels for my fingers as long as they're black bezels ask iphone X is not an option plus it's too expensive for me anyway...but i didn't love the 32GB storage. So I'm wondering, to have an iPhone that will last for years yet had enough storage for my needs, should i get the iphone 7 plus 128GB or iPhone 8 plus 64GB? Is 64GB enough for apps, music, audiobooks, movies etc? I have google drive for photos but will back up older photos to my pc. Icloud is not an option because i only have a pc and you can only download photos one at a time on pc which would take far too long and is not practical.

Thanks in advance...

I think the most optimal solution would have been for you to upgrade the battery on the 6S+ in the first place. But now, if you are in the habit of upgrading iOS; then go for the newer 8+ model as it will fare better with future iOS upgrades compared to the 7+. If you can manage to restrain yourself from updating iOS, then the 7+ can be a better deal especially if you do plan to use the extra storage.

I'm sure the 7 will be well supported as well. Apple just launched the 2018 iPad, which has the same A10 SOC as the iPhone 7, so I'm sure both will get the same love going forward.

And I thought you could install iCloud sync on your Windows PC? I know it's not as streamlined as you would get on a Mac, but I believe it can be configured to automatically download your entire library. Even so, it will take you a long time to fill 64GB with photos--I have a well-culled photo library of 16 years that doesn't add up to 20GB yet. Now if you take lots of HD/4K videos, that would be another story. To me, the 128GB is for those that need a lot of local storage for something like movie downloads and traveling where data connection or usage fees would be an issue.

Thanks! I will try icloud sync on Windows to see if i can back up from icloud to the computer. And i appreciate your advice on the 64GB

I came from an iPhone 7+, moved to a Razer (Android) and am currently testing an iPhone 8+ and iPhone X.
The biggest reason I moved from a 7+ revolved around issues with iOS 11. I can say that many of the issues I had on the 7+ are reduced in part or whole on the 8+.
If you are looking to upgrade - I recommend going with the 8+

I agree with what others say 8+, but look into an Apple refurbished 8+ probably the same price as a new 7+ 128.

I've yet to see the 8/X hit refurbished, at least not from Apple. So far all they sell is the 7. "Refurbished" on eBay is rather dubious, since it seems to be a fairly undefined term there.

It Will likely be a while before Apple offers the iPhone 8 or X refurbished from their store, which likely will be the iPhone 8 offered first, and the iPhone X sometime around or after the 2018 iPhones launch. Apple refurbished iPhones go through significant testing, the battery is typically replaced, alongside with a new display. They literally will resemble a new iPhone and include a one-year warranty.

I don’t trust anything off eBay as ‘refurbished’.

I would advise against the 8+. I believe its poor value now and looks wise it will be outdated in 4-5 months time once the 2018 phones hit the market.
If your budget is constrained, buy a slightly used/refurbished 128GB iPhone 7+. At the $500 ballpark its unbeatable for what it offers.
What I would do, is wait until the 2018 Iphone release assuming you have a good Android phone to use in the meantime. The rumored 6.1 LCD iPhone will likely have the same screen real estate as the current 8+ and will likely be priced the same ($799 for 64GB). The difference is that you will have the latest modern iPhone with likely better internals.

EDIT: 64GB is way more than i need for apps, but im mostly cloud based (Apple music and Google photos)

Could anyone with an iPhone 8 plus tell me, as some reviewers have suggested, if it feels too heavy in the hand?

Feels basically the same as the 6 Plus, 6S Plus, and 7 Plus.

Cool. Thank you! I guess quite a few reviewers blow things out of proportion. One said it's the heaviest phone I've ever reviewed and doesn't feel comfortable

Welcome. ;)
I'm holding a 7+ (matte black) and an 8+ (red) in hand. They are darn close. Can't really tell them apart.

With the addition of the glass backing and added internal wireless charging components, Initially there feels like there is a weight difference, but one likely adjusts rather quickly because I don’t think it’s anything substantial being the 5.5 iPhone as large as it is.

What's coming out in 2018? The new iPhone X?
