iPhone 7 Plus No Service When Turn off LTE

Just switched over from T-Mobile on Saturday, but Apple traded my iPhone in on Friday for the "sim-free" version that would work with Verizon in advance of the switch. Anyways, when I disable LTE or set it to Data Only under the Enable LTE menu, my phone goes to No Service. It doesn't seem my phone is connecting to the 3g network. I am worried because where I travel for work sometimes only has 3g service and I don't want to be without service in those spots.

Exactly which model phone do you have? You can check in Settings/General/About.

I don't know if all the sim free models are the same but my iPhone 7+ sim free model is "MN492LL/A" which I'm currently using on T-Mobile.

Did you obtain a new sim card from Verizon or did Apple provide you with one when you switched?

We went to Verizon to switch and got the SIM card from there.

The rear of the phone says model A1611, the model in the Settings/General/About says "MN4E2LL/A"

The rear of the phone probably says A1661 - there is no A1611. However, the MN4E2LL/A is a Black 256 GB 7 Plus Qualcomm model, and should be compatible with Verizon. There is a slight possibility that there is a problem with the phone, but this is almost certainly a provisioning problem. Call Verizon and try to get them to sort it out.

You are correct, I incorrectly typed that in. I may swing by the store this afternoon and see if they can help me out.

Just to follow-up.

I traveled to an area where no LTE was present, but 3G was. My phone went to no service, while my friend's phone was connected to the Verizon 3G network.

I took my phone to Apple yesterday and they exchanged it due to "faulty equipment." The new phone worked yesterday when I would disable LTE, as it would connect to the 3G network. But now today it is doing the same exact thing. It will go to No Service when I disable LTE and also when I switch LTE to Data Only.

I don't know what to do next.......

I really, really think this is a Verizon provisioning issue, especially since it is still happening on a second phone. Did Verizon re-provision your phone from scratch?

You're still within the return period where you can cancel your Verizon service, right? If it were me, I'd call their customer service people, tell them the problem, and tell them if they can't fix it, I'm going back to T-Mobile.

You might also want to post this issue over on the Verizon forum on Howard Forums.

I am beginning to think the same thing. I am not sure exactly what they did to the phone. I was there for over an hour. I know they deactivated the line and reactivated it.

I will post over on HoFo as well. Thanks!

I'm having the same issue. I just replaced my iPhone today at the Apple Store and it worked for about 2 hours before the same issue sprang up. Kind of annoying that I now have a replacement phone with the same issue. When I put my sim in my mom's 6s, I am able to switch between LTE and 3G without any issues.

I'm hoping its just a bug or something in iOS....

Same thing happened to me, except mine worked from about 2:00pm yesterday until I went to sleep last night, but then didn't work this morning.

Both my mom and sister have the 7 Plus and neither of them have this problem.

Could you swap SIMs with them as a test? This will identify where the problem lies.

Please post back if you find a fix. At this point for me, neither apple nor Verizon have any clue what is going on and each company is blaming the other. Apple says it's a carrier issue and Verizon says it's an iOS bug or hardware problem.

I've had the same exact experience with both companies, putting it back on each other. I do have a tech support ticket that is being looked at by "advanced" network engineers. Hope to hear something tomorrow and will report back.

Same for me. Verizon issued a nrb ticket last night and I'm supposed to hear back either today or tomorrow evening

Yup, same here. Got a text yesterday afternoon, saying it was being investigated and I will be updated within 24 hrs. Please report back when you hear something and I will do the same.

Verizon wasn't able to help. I found out what the issue was and was able to fix it. Even though I have a sim free unlocked iPhone, it was first activated on Tmobile so the Tmobile gsm only activation policy was loaded onto it which basically turns off the cdma modem in the phone. Apple was able to change the activation policy to be fully unlocked for use with both cdma and gsm networks. They changed it and I reset my iPhone and now all is working as it should be.

Was this a phone purchased from Best Buy or somewhere else?
