When talking about video capture quality, most people relate to the resolution of 1080p and 4k, but the encoding process is much more important.
The fact is that the same 1080p video will look much better when downscaled from 4k rather than captured natively at 1080p. The reason is that 1080p videos are recorded at 4.2.2 in the best case scenario = half or more of a color data is lost. But, when capturing at 4k, you can downscale the video later to 1080p and get a real 4.4.4 = each video pixel will have its own luminance and color info = professional level video quality.
That's basically the biggest difference between professional and expensive video cameras and the cheap ones.
We can achieve that trick using any video editing software like Adobe premiere or Final Cut Pro.
The question is: Is it possible to automatically downscale the 4K video to 1080p 4.4.4 on the iPhone 7 itself to get the same result?
