Hi so I have had my iPhone 8 since February. Battery capacity is now at 89% which I think is lower than what it should be. I use my phone a fair bit but wouldn’t say that I am a massively heavy user and even then it’s for mainly browsing and some youtube, nothing too intensive. I charge my phone overnight and by the time I am home from work it needs topping up. My charger is always plugged in and on. I sometimes use my phone while it is plugged in but heard that maybe that’s bad?

Anyway, does this warrant an investigation by Apple?

You can contact Apple about it and they can potentially run some diagnostics, but short of them finding something, which isn't all that likely, there's not much that they can do (although you can still request the battery to be replaced at your cost).

I have booked a genius bar appointment. Can’t do any harm in asking them to do a diagnostic I guess.

What’s the cost of a replacement battery if you are in warranty?

Your phone needs to be fixed before it's battery is drained completely. Try to visit or contact Apple support for this.

So I took it to my local Apple store genius bar. The service tech agreed that the battery has reduced in capacity a bit quicker than expected. He was ready to replace it before telling me for some reason it’s been flagged up that the phone has to be sent to the repair depot for further investigation.

I picked up the phone yesterday and apparently further diagnostics were performed and no faults found and they didn’t replace the battery. So if I want it replaced it will cost me £49.
