Hi all,

I’m all sorted to upgrade to an XS Max through the IUP on Friday, but my launch day iPhone 8 has decided to crap out on me today. No obvious cause (drops, bangs, etc), it just wont power on. I’ve also tried hard resets, reinstalling iOS 12, etc, but no joy. Obviously I haven’t got time to send it in for repair and get it back in time. My nearest Apple store is 100 miles away, so can’t go in before Friday either.
I haven’t contacted Apple yet, but wondered if anyone had a similar problem and if it affected the upgrade? Thanks.

funny the same thing happened to me last year. IUP and my 7+ died about a week before I got my new X. Luckily for me the closest apple store is about a mile away and they gave me a brand new phone under Apple care and I basically traded in a brand new 7+ for an X. No problem whatsoever. Inn fact, if there were any issues with your 8 has any cosmetic flaws, this will work in your favor even more.

But, bottom line, the defect on my 7+had absolutely no affect on my upgrade. At all.

Thanks for that, good to know. So I theory, when I go to my appointment they exchange my iPhone 8 first, then upgrade the exchange.

Should contact Apple ASAP to see what can be done.

Thanks pal, doing it as soon as I can. Just waiting for my old 6+ to update to iOS 12 and restore my backup.
