iPhone 8 end of support?

So, I am on an old 6e, and I am cheap and not very ambitious about tech. But it is failing. So I thought I would buy a refurbished 8. However, it seems like end of support might come soon for that.

If I buy one now, might it be unsupported soon?

It runs iOS 15 fine, so my guess is it’ll run iOS 16 and probably 17 without issues too.

It means it won't receive any further updates for the OS except possibly security updates.. When Apple dropped support for the iPhone 6 it was on iOS 12 so it would not be able to update to iOS 13 when it came out. iOS 12.5.3 would be the end for it but it still received security updates to its current 12.5.5 version.. The phone still works fine but eventually apps won't support iOS 12 and then it becomes an issue..

In addition to end of software support, hardware support ends about the same time. 5-7 years. iPhone 8 is living on borrowed time at this point.

I'd encourage you to consider the iPhone SE.

Apple created that phone for price-sensitive customers still using legacy devices who don't need the latest features.
