Is Apple going to orphan the iPhone 8? No upgrades to this form factor?

Hard to say for sure long term. If there is a good reason to do it down the road Apple may release a cheaper iPhone in the 6/7/8 form factor with updated internals, but I think it's safe to say that this year the new models will all be X type form factors with FaceID and the 8/8+ will continue to be sold as a 2nd tier device.

If they won’t update the SE why would they update the 8 series? I’d say the 8 will live on as is with no further upgrades to that form factor.. If it’s offered for sale as long as the 6, it will be available from Apple for a long time. The 8 is extremely capable and will perform very well for 2-3 years easy

Why would they? I think Apple wants to show the graduation from having a form factor of a device that was four years in a row using the home button to something newer with Face ID with an OLED display. The 6 through 8 design shows the transition how much the iPhone changed with the X. The 6.1 LCD iPhone basically the new entry level iPhone.

I guess it’s pretty obvious that they want to move away from that design at some stage.

It is the era of Animoji and Memoji. The 8 is a simple internet communications device with a phone and iPod built in. :p
