I have a problem, when I take a photo on my phone and then try to view it on my Windows Desktop, it says it can't be opened. Why does this happen?

Some photos even says it needs to install additional codecs to works this file. The hyperlink takes me to this HEVC Video Extensions which cost £0.79 in Microsoft store. The same thing happens with videos also.

There should be an option in photos under transfer to pc or Mac. Is it set to automatic or keep originals? See if changing the setting helps.
