iPhone 8/Plus iPhone 8 Plus screen slight yellow tint

Hi everyone,

Yesterday in a store I compared my iPhone 8 Plus with the one that they had on display. I noticed mine had a slightly yellower tone in the screen. I opened the settings and both had True Tone active and the brightness set to maximum.

Could that be caused by my screen protector? I have the Belkin one that they install on all the Apple Stores and the phone in the store didn't have any one.

Two different screen suppliers for iPhone 8+ maybe?

It's nothing too worrying and the yellower tone doesn't bother me at all (I wouldn't had realised if I hadn't seen the other one on the store) but I'm just curious.

True Tone matches the light conditions around you. In some cases it’s warmer and other cases prove cooler.

Turn it off and see what happens. I would recommend leaving it on though. Might seem jarring at first but leave it on a couple of days and then turn it off and cool blueish Tone will look off.

So even though the two iPhone 8 Plus were exactly under the same light conditions and settings (True Tone active and brightness at maximum) is it normal that they were showing a slightly different screen tone?

I always have True Tone on. It gives normally a warmer feel. When I turn it off everything turns too blueish.

I have an 8 Plus and I’m returning it due to the iPhone X but also because the screen looks yellow to me. Apple can’t seem to get it right after all these years with the LCD screens. It’s really quite annoying. This is why I try not to buy launch day iPhones. Good luck with yours.

Nothing guarantees that a new one will have a better display.

I was just wondering why some phones look slightly different (slightly yellower or cooler) being exactly the same model.

All screens are different. The ones I can't live with are ones with uneven color or brightness or a yellow tone. A warmer white screen is fine in my opinion. If you are using true tone because you like a warmer screen then I think you should be happy with the screen you have. I wonder too if the screens at the Apple stores are different because they are on all day long at full brightness.

Apple LCD displays are all over the place. Sometimes I wonder if they even bother to calibrate. But I don’t mind if it’s one or the other, as long as it’s uniform. Nothing worse than scrolling text across the screen while watching the white background go from warm to cool. Or those lovely specimens where one corner is only half as bright as the rest of the display. I remember helping a co-worker with her new iPhone. The SIM card was too big, so I had to cut it down to size. When I turned the phone on, I looked at the upper right corner and sighed. The SIM card in the new iPhone was now no longer usable in her old phone and to me it looked like an instant return with that glaring display issue. When I pointed it out to her and asked what to do, so just gave me a puzzled look and said it was no problem. She could see it, but it didn’t bother her. I guess my expectations are a little higher when I have to pay that much for a phone.

I am on my 4th and they have all been different tones, and they all have uniformity issues. I decided to just give up and keep this 4th one. The first one was actually the best I think. Go figure.

I hope OLED will fix these issues.

I don’t really get this. I can be extremely picky and am cursed to have been a device tester.. but have never had issues with iPhone screens. Some can be cool & some can be warm. Same with MBP. I had 2015 & 2017 15” MBP side by side and 2017 was noticeable more warm but IMO was very accurate on colors.

The 8+ I’m using now is slightly warm with TT on & slightly cool with it off. Same with my IPP 10.5. I’ve had or held/managed hundreds of iPhones (once managed ‘fleet’ of iPhones & iPads for a pharma) and never saw a dead pixel or uneven tone/color.

Literally every display model at my local apple store had issues with uneven color/tone. I guess some people just can't see it and some people it will make go crazy. I never had any issue with my 6 Plus however.

My 8+ has the classic dark upper right corner. I would live with it, but it also has this super annoying click when you touch the back, right on the Apple logo. Anytime you hold the phone up to your ear it just clicks repeatedly, like glue sticking. Exchanging it today.

I actually had the most uniform screen I've ever got with a new iPhone with my 8 plus but last night i noticed it has some stuck pixels. Im just gonna return it and go for the X or something android. Apple screens have always been a issue for me. Ive never had a perfect screen and Ive owned every phone since the 3g

I must be the luckiest guy when it comes to iPhone screens.. now the iPad is a different beast. I doubt an issue here but I wonder if the Reduce Transparency being ‘off’ messes with some people.

I have always had troubles with iPhone's uneven screens - 4 (stuck pixels), 4S (darker 1/3 of the screen), 5S (stuck pixels, blue tint on right, yellow on left side), SE (yellow band on the top, interlacing lines problems), 6S (darker top 1/3 of the screen, faulty battery, replaced with my current 6S, which has the best screen I've seen on any of the units I've owned)

The OP has a screen protector on- that is likely changing what the truetone sensor is “seeing”. Take it off and see what you really have before a return ...

I already turn off the true tone and the screen keeps a little bit yellow.

If anyone is still struggling with the yellow tint there is a white balance slider that takes care of it for you.

settings/general/accessibility/display accommodations/ Last slider "Reduce White Point" I set mine to 46% opposed to 80% it was on. Or turning it off completely might be even better. Hope this helps.
