I am on the every year uparade program for AT&T. I know we are still 6 days away from getting all the info on the rumored iPhone 8. I was just wondering if anyone knows how the upgrade program works? Do I have to purchase the new phone directly from AT&T? Is there a charge to do so? Etc.

Thanks
Rob

Seems like the last couple years, the carriers have ripped up their upgrade programs anyway....mainly to match whatever crazy promotion T-Mobile rolls out.

I posted this on another thread but does anyone remember AT&T's initial trade in promotion last year? "Get a free iPhone 7 when you trade in AND sign up for DIRECTV?" Then T-Mobile announced theirs, and within 36 hours all the other carriers scrambled to catch up.

So sit tight. Whatever upgrade program you're on now will probably change next week.

Yes you need to purchase from your carrier's site unless you plan to pay full price.

That's not true. Last year I bought my 7S on the Apple app and signed up with the AT&T next plan for the first time. You can do it through Apple.

Last year, when I bought my 7S, I signed up for the upgrade program with AT&T for the first time. I did it on the Apple app, because I've had the most luck getting through on the app at midnight when pre-orders start. I think all I had to pay was sales tax. I've never bought a phone through the AT&T website, because (a) it always seems to be down when pre-orders go live and (b) their shipping times seem to quickly fall to 2-3 weeks or longer, depending on what configuration you want.

Yes this is all true and the way I've purchased all of my past 5 phones. Never have I purchased them through AT&T always through Apple and entered my AT&T info on Apples site.

You can purchase from app store, apple website or a apple store.

You would just trade in(send in) your phone and they would continue the plan split in to the payment schedule according to the phones price.

You can absolutely use AT&T Next and upgrade in store / online / the app when preorders open it's how I got my 6/ and 7+ when they launched. Just make sure you make sure you're eligible for the upgrade or pay whatever is left of the 12 months. Good Luck.

That’s good to hear because I have the AT&T next plan and I chatted with an AT&T rep online earlier today and they told me I have to do it at an AT&T store or on AT&T’s website which in the past I’ve had bad experience with.
