My phone lives in my back pocket much of its life. When I had the battery replaced in my 6S (which I just started using again after my mad love for my SE), the Apple genius looked at my phone on intake and had me sign that I agreed that there was a curve to it. Now that I am tetering on getting an iPhone 7, I am stunned by the fact that if one needs 64GB, the option is 128GB in the iPhone 7 and that is only $50 less than the 64GB iPhone 8. How is that possible? I like metal phones and I don't care about the charging advantages. I would be thrilled with the next gen SE, but that seems to be a pretty far fetched notion.

So... is the 8 robust enough? Will it bend? I really didn't like the way the back looks, but it would have a back cover on all the time so I wouldn't have to look at it anyway.

iPhone 8 bend test:

I would be more concerned of the glass cracking. Is your back pocket the only place you can put your phone is? Doesn't make sense to intentionally put constant pressure on your phone.

I had this same question about the 8 Plus...how easy it bends? You’d think glass would be very durable.

Only place except if I am running errands and I have my handbag with me. I am fascinated by the fact that people like big phones; I think they are great if you are chained to a desk, but otherwise, the practicality escapes me. I know guys carry phones in their front pockets, but that isn't feasible for me. I adore the 5 / SE form factor and would shell out $$ for a new one. I do take it out of my pocket when I get in my car and when I am standing, there isn't constant pressure. I don't care for tight clothes either.

I can't imagine putting a phone in my back pocket but sounds like there is a market for a curved phone. Might be a big seller...

I put mine in my back pocket regularly, and sit on it frequently. I'm usually sitting on a hard plastic tool bucket while working. I never bent my 7 plus, and I expect it would be way harder to bend the 8 plus, which Ive had for a few months.

I did bend my 6 plus doing the same work

The iPhone 6 Plus use the 6000 series aluminum, which Apple introduced the 7000 series aluminum starting with the 6S, which rectified any bending issues others might have experienced with the iPhone 6/6+.

My 6s plus was in my back pocket, most of the time. And no bending, now with my 7 plus same thing. No bending, either.

Double sided glass does offer great peace of mind with regards to bend ability, but also twice the likelihood of glass breaking when dropped without a case. Love the grip of glass, stays in your hand much better than aluminum. Reminds me of the iPhone 4 days, makes it so much easier to handle.
