Who bets next year we will see an iPhone Air (an extra model introduced as one more thing)with no ports, reduced notch and half the thicknes of the current models? marketed as the future of iPhone. I think thats why they went with the squared design this year, so they can show the dramatic difference in thickness next year with the Air. Thoughts?

Technically the regular iPhone is the Air variant in the line up already (mid range option). But I know what you mean. The Air moniker has got kind of muddled up by Apple recently as it supposed to be super thin, yet the iPad Air 4 is slightly thicker than the iPad Pro 11 that share the same chassis design. But to answer your question, I think what you are describing will be the iPhone 13 or 14 Max model, although won’t be thinner.

Unlike an ipad which uses cheap a$$ camera and more room to spread everything around, on an iPhone, you have top notch camera hardware and very tight spaces to fit everything. Isn’t the motherboard folded or something to conserve space in the iPhone?

And thinner means less battery capacity...do you want worst battery life than Mini??!!

They could have easily called iPhone 12 mini iPhone 12 Air, as it is super light. Thinner phones could be more tricky to hold and will probably be easier to bent. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Not sure the term Air is associated with anything other than mid-tier tech to use up while supplies last at the moment. It used to represent the ipad flagship prior to the introduction of the Pro line but that was a long time ago.

There won’t be a redesign, so treat next year as an “s” upgrade. Can’t see them adding more devices to the line up they’ve already got options for every budget.

New iPhone Mini is the air model and Apple will not do any major redesigns for several more years. For me even Mini is little too heavy but will do since it's the smallest OLED iPhone. So maybe 2023 model will get smaller but major advances in battery technology have to happen first...

No, with a weak bendable iPhone.

iPhones don’t need to be thinner... for battery sake, they could be a mil thicker even.

Thanks for the additional context, it makes more sense to me now. I agree, thinner is really not needed. As long as folks exist who sit on their phones, less structural integrity is not really on my wish list.
