I have an iphone, an imap gmail account, and finally imap set up on my mac.

once i sync with itunes, i have the mail account on the phone, great.

I now see, on the phone, a "sent mail" folder on the bottom of the folders, along with the "sent mail" with the paper airplane icon, on top by the inbox.

inside the sent mail @ the bottom, are all the messages sent from my MAC. Inside the Airplane Icon, are all messages sent from the Mac, the iphone, and the www interface.

Whats the deal, why the extra folder now?

The extra "sent mail" folder does NOT appear on the Mac.

Also when I delete things, i get random "delete folders". Ive seen up to 3 of these created.

If i delete something on my iphone, it goes to the Gmail->trash folder, like it should. If i delete it on my mac, it stays in the trash bin icon under the account inbox, and does not go into the gmail->trash folder. It is set to store "trashed messages" on the server however.

ARGH

In Settings go to your advanced mail settings and you can tell it where to put sent messages. Choose the sent mail folder on the server.

I meant on your iPhone

I can specify where drafts, and trash go in the iphone, there is no sent options.

this is a bugger.

the iphone isnt creating/storing sent mail in the extra folder, the mac is.

Ok, in mail on your mac, highlight the folder where you want the Sent mail to go, then go to Mailbox->Use this mailbox for->Sent
