iPhone and .mac

I did a quick search and I couldn't find this anywhere so...

From what I can remember of the keynote Steve said that the iPhone will have email access with a free offer from Yahoo. Great. But where does this leave .mac users? If they want to get e-mail on the move will they have to pay their provider for it? If this is the case it is a huge kick in the teeth for .mac users.

You can access .mac from the iphone using IMAP.

What's unclear so far is whether they'll offer push email, like the blackberry.

RIM has some patents in this area, the tie up with Yahoo is perhaps a way out of paying RIM for the privilege of push email.

They're going to have to have iPhone play along with .mac - I can't imaging I would need to forward my .mac email to a yahoo address in order to utilize the push mail feature of the iPhone - very un=apple like of a solution. My guess is that Leopard, iLife & iPhone will be introduced around the same time, maybe same day and will all be integrated with enhanced features for.mac. Maybe liveblogging features for .mac-based iWeb sites that you can create on your iPhone, who knows - time will tell.

I'm failry certain a .mac upgrade will appear soon with Leopard. It's well and truly in need of updating.

In principle I'd love to buy it but not at that spec and with that price.
