The nice thing about the iPhone is that Windows will recognize it as a camera!

When I plug in my iPhone, Windows XP system pops up a dialog box and presents several options to view photos. I select Photoshop and Photoshop opens.

Once in Photoshop, click on File > Import. There's a new item there! It's labeled "WIA-Apple iPhone..."

Clicking on that opens a dialog box containing thumbnails of all the photos on my iPhone. From there you can import all of the photos or select the ones you want.

Bump.

This is very important. Could this be used for iPhone hacking, as to access the filesystem?

i've tried and the answer is no. You can't even ping the iPhone when it's on your router.

I believe some hackers are working on putting ssh on the iPhone which could open up a lot of good things, just like ssh on Apple TV

but the Photoshop tip is something I find useful since I use Photoshop. In Windows XP, the iPhone also appears in Windows Explorer as a Camera but only the photos are listed -- no other data from the phone can be accessed.

Just so you know, the phones DMG image has already been opened. Pretty much, some folks have been able to navigate the actual file system, etc. If you do a careful search, you can find the images already floating about the internet. They are png's. I've attached one for example..
