Hey all,

Does anybody know why my iPhone won't sync, and won't display in iTunes to be available to be specifically synced, my Smart Groups in Address Book? They're all done via things I wrote in the Notes section, mainly grouped as to how I know the people (high school, youth group, etc.). All the people are syncing, but I want to be able to sync specific groups (i.e. a smart group for people who have either an address, e-mail address, or phone number; I would exclude those who are only in my Address Book because of their screen name in iChat).

Is there any way for me to sync Smart Groups?

If I am not mistaken the iPhone does not sync smart groups as of now.

What I've done is create Smart Groups, and then a regular group and just drag the contacts from the Smart Group to the regular group. Not the most elegant solution, but it works. If I have to add someone to a Smart Group, then I have to delete everyone in the regular group, and re-add everyone, to make sure I haven't skipped anything.

I'm waiting for this to be fixed as well.

Sadly, so.... Apple like...

Here we are a year+ later and smartgroups in Address book STILL do not sync from address book to Iphone.

The following applications need to be updated from their 1980's motif:

Address Book: Sync Groups and Smart Groups
Mail: How about an integrated Spell Checker?
Finder: Come on... Even this months Mac Mag makes fun of FInder and says it needs to update the 1980's look and feel.

With MS Office 2004 so scaled back, and MS office 2007 supporting many
features Apple should be... and with parallels providing a virtual environment
that allows Windows on a Macbook run faster than native (because Intel HT processors don't know a thing about Windows Threads. But parallels sure does, the answer might just me to move back to windows but run it on a Macbook for now...

I love the Macbooks, but I am getting tired of looking at really old simple tools... So if I want to stay Macbook, I need to pick up a 3rd party "Finder",
and simply run MS Office 2004, with Entourage... Hum... that is MacOS X
with a Microsoft productivity pack. That is a really sad comment about where Apples tools stand. :-( Do they even have a office suite? (Not including Open Office?.... ah yes.... WordPerfect, and Visicalc. LOL:D

With [app]ABContacts[/app] new version, released yesterday, you can create your own smart groups on the phone.

They are not the same groups you have on the Mac but at least you can automatically file your contacts.

This video explains ABContacts smart groups features : ABContacts demo part 2.
