I think it would be a good idea to keep a running list of apps that people want for iPhone. I know that I'd love to develop an AJAX app for the phone (like the IM one I discussed in another thread), but I either don't have the expertise (as is the case with the IM) or the idea. I have a basic understanding of PHP, MySQL, and AJAX like many people on this forum. So, I was thinking that if we made a list of apps people want, along with a list of people who are currently developing them, it would help organize the iPhone app community.

Here are a few of my ideas:

AIM/MSN/YahooIM/ICQ IM app (similar to meebo)
Blog/News Aggregator (similar to the Digg iPhone app)
Word/Excel/PowerPoint Reader (Google does this with AJAX, right?)

Slingplayer Client, or a way to 'Sling' from the AppleTV. And that's it.

Absolutely! I vote for a Slingplayer Client of some kind as well. That would be awesome.

I also think a flight tracker would be useful. (It's already a widget for dashboard, I know, but it's a great widget I use a lot. Lets get it on the iPhone!)

MSN Messenger for iPhone.

If you have noticed, http://webmessenger.msn.com works in Safari 3 beta.

Not for me :(

However meebo does the same job...

checking calculator

I really want an app to keep track of how much money I have on my debit card. I'm pretty bad at knowing how much money I have in the bank at any time. So I really need something where I could keep track of all my deposits and withdrawals, etc. This app shouldn't take account information or any personal info. Just input what you spent and where. Kinda like quickbooks.

I like that idea. Perhaps I'll work on an app like that.

That is a good idea. I keep a little notebook in my back pocket to keep track of my monthly spending. It would be great if iPhone had a spreadsheet program. Hopefully Google will step up for that, but creating a little program to track spending wouldn't be hard at all. You could set a starting amount as well and your spending would subtract from it every time.

The problem would be if people felt comfortable allowing that information to be stored on someone's server since that really is the only way to do it. Storing that info in a cookie really wouldn't be good enough. Since you wouldn't really be storing any account or personal info then I think not that many people would have a problem with it.

I use a great programme called stock manager on my palm. It tracks my stock positions and updates with a 20 min delay. keeps a track of my p/l and has a few charts etc.

Any ideas what i can use to replace this programme on the iphone?

Though not really an app, but a much needed feature is voice dial. I use it all the time on my Verizon phones (and it's built-in, versus some sort of fee or something from ATT). Kinda hard to dial while driving, even more so on the iPhone. On my razr, push the button on my BT headset, it asks for a command, etc. Since the law goes into effect next month (from what I heard) regarding talking with one hand while driving with the other being illegal (in California afaik), this should be a required feature. What good is a BT or wired headset without voice dial?

Looks like Voice Dial will be available, according to AT&T

In the PDF of AT&T's Employee Training Manual (PDF Link) on page 21 they mention some kind of "After Activation" ability...

Features available post activation via Customer Care or OLAM:
  • Early N&W
  • Roadside assistance
  • International data (new feature being created)
  • International calling (AT&T WorldConnect)
  • Voice Dial
  • iPhone Data Plan with 1500 or Unlimited M2M SMS
  • Answer Tones

[Edit]:
Ok. I found the monthly rates (these are with my current plan which uses a basic no-frills LG phone... Don't know it it's any different with iPhone):
  • Early Nights and Weekends (7pm to 7am) - $8.99
  • Roadside assistance - $2.99
  • International data (new feature being created)
(Not sure if it's the same thing, but...)
    - International Long Distance Text Message - $9.99
  • International calling (AT&T WorldConnect) - Not mentioned in my price list.
  • Voice Activated Dialing - $4.99
  • iPhone Data Plan with 1500 or Unlimited M2M SMS - As seen already in price lists.
  • Answer Tones - Not mentioned
Now everyone can change their bitch-fest (which I will join right along with) to how it will cost them an additional 5 bucks a month for voice dial. Probably another "demand" from AT&T... "You (Apple) demand this and that from us??? Well, we then demand that we collect $ for these services..."

Get "Pennies"

You can set a monthly budget and add in expenses in mere seconds everytime you spend money.

Take a look at PocketMoney. Haven't bought the iPhone version yet but had it on my Newton  and it was GREAT! Hardy is a very good developer and does a great job supporting his apps.
