Today a new website launched for the iPhone, the iPhone Fan Club.

http://www.iphonefanclub.com/

The idea of the website was to provide users of the iPhone with a
fairly user friendly
web-based application to launch other iPhone targeted web-based applications
from.

This is a necessity because of the lack of an open application
development kit from Apple. We also wanted to create a place where
fans of the device could chat in an online web forum. So that's where
I got the name, the iPhone Fan Club.

As the site is launching today, and I'm looking for feedback and ideas to
help improve it and expand upon it. Keep in mind, you'll need to be running
Apple's Safari (now available on Windows) to get the best result from the
site. Firefox works pretty well with the site, but lets not talk about how well
Internet Explorer handles the site.

Upcoming features I'm planning on having soon:
- Add to home screen function for your favorite apps. This will make
them easier to get to.
- Custom Icons for Software Applications.
- Star Ranking (1-5) of Applications
- More on the fly sorting/filtering of content.
- Better theme for the forums just for the iPhone
- iPhone Accessory Reviews
- More custom games

Also included in this launch is an early version of a web-based
Blackjack game we made for the iPhone. It's got a few quirks, but once
I work them all out and add a few more features it'll be the first of
many web-based iPhone games that I hope to make.

You can play it today on most web browsers at:

Also if you are going to be one of the first to get an iPhone at
launch, let me know I may need testers for some more upcoming games!

Thanks in advance for taking a look and providing feedback. It's much
appreciated!

you kinda got beat to the punch on this one. but good effort nonetheless. i guess the more options the better.

Thanks for the feedback.

This site is actually designed to run on the iPhone, rather than just another site on the internet that happens to have iPhone apps. The interface tries to mimic that of the iPhone home screen, to keep a consistent look and feel.

The other good thing to note is the ability for anyone to submit an application for the list. This will later be even easier to do, but for now it's not too difficult to add applications.

Once I get the functionality of the adding your favorite icons to the home screen, the true usefulness of the application will be seen. We wanted to get the site out there to help grow the community and test out the website more before the iPhone launch in two weeks.

We just updated the site, you can now add favorites.

Also, the site width isn't fixed, so the site will look good in landscape mode too. If you want, resize your browser window to see what it will look like on the phone.

I made some updates to make our Application Launcher more usable on the iPhone. I also added better "Favorites" functionality as well as AJAX loading of data to make load times slightly better for the home screen on EDGE.

We're also working with a few application developers to test their application/games out to get the most optimized experience out of it.

My Blackjack game works, but doesn't fit well without scrolling because of the address bar. I will tweak it more this week to make the experience better on the iPhone.

very good site! i hope people make these sites more often.

but how would tetris work on the iphone? theres no keyboard!

Yeah right now we list all web based applications/games and list some as "Unoptimized." You can see that status now only by hitting info. We keep them listed in hopes the developers get feedback from iPhone users wanting to use it.

I'm going to add an "Optimized" filter at the top that is on by default later this week now that the application lists are growing.
