Since ios 4 is updated on the iPhone with higher res ui do you think 2x iPhone apps will look better and more native on the iPad?

Well the iPad wont be able to display iPhone 4 apps at 2x. More like 1.4x (guestimate, i've not got the calculator out... maybe if i had multitasking;)), so yes, they should look much better, almost as good as native iPad apps.

I've just had another thought. Unless the iPad gets an update when iPhone 4 comes out, we wont be able to display the apps for it at all... maybe? Hard to say, but i would think the iPad currently doesnt support that resolution.

I really cant see them making us wait until september for that, so maybe it wil come with the WiFi fix update.

How so?

The iPhone 4's resolution is 960x640 whereas the iPad's is 1024x768 which means you'll be able to view an iPhone 4-specific app on the iPad with a border around (just like 2x zoom iPhone app mode).

The big buttons and fonts will still look pretty stupid (but not as jaggy) on an iPad!

I'd like to think this too. I agree with colmaclean that it'll work at native resolution with a black border - but I expect a small update will be needed for compatibility even so.

Maybe, hard to say if the iPad OS is currently forward compatible with the iPhone 4 apps. I guess we'll find out in less than two weeks. It shouldnt matter, i hope almost all new Apps are going to be designed for both, like all the ones with the little "+" on the App Store.

I guess any iPhone4-specific apps which take advantage of the new iOS4 APIs won't play on the iPad until it gets the new OS. Also any using the gyroscope hardware will have functionality missing.

As for the AppStore, it would be nice if iPhone4-enhanced apps are not grouped in their own category as a separate purchase from their older version. Universal is the way forward! Can't see this happening, though...

The iPad will be able to run the new apps(not including gyro apps) but we wont be able to use the at 1x
They will all run at what is currently 2x because what 2x is, is the exact resolution of the iPhone 4.
