Hi, my girlfriend is overseas and I'm wondering if I can send SMS messages to her, as the call quality is terrible, not to mention hell of expensive. If so, would I be charged extra for these? It's her phone bit she put a local (foreign) SIM in it.

receiving text messages = free. Sending will cost you MONDO. It's pretty disgusting actually - expect to pay at least .50 a text to send.
I used to be on tmobile, and sending texts to/from canada, and sending texts in canada was all included in my plan (unlimited texts). As soon as I can get a turbo-sim I am dumping AT&T faster than you can believe.

It ain't cheap. My mom here does a lot of text messaging with relatives in Western Europe. Received messages are .25 cents, but if you have a text messaging plan one received message will knock off 2 messages under the plans allotment. Sent messages are .25 cents as well. It's not bad, but AT&T REALLY needs a good int'l messaging plan.
Man, telcos are scumbags. It's not even that I mind the $ that much, but it just seems like everything has to be some hidden, separate charge with all kinds of complicated variations to bite you. It's like they're constantly trying to trick you out of your money instead of just admitting they want more. Thanks for the info though.
ATT has an international long distance texting plan for 9.99. That package includes 100 text messages. As for roaming plans for text we don't any as of yet.
