iPhone ATT Family Plan Sign Up

I bought an Iphone and want to transfer over from T-mobile. I went to my local Cingular/ATT and the guy was clueless, it was the first time he had actually seen one.

I want to sign up with for a family plan and get my wife a new phone. I am a bit confused is there a special iPhone family plan that I can signup for with one iphone and another different non iPhone?

If not how do I accomplish this?

The AT&T/Cingular Store was clueless? What planet has he been on? Actually, none of the clerks at my AT&T store had seen an iPhone, either.

First of all, have you tried to activate it via iTunes? I was keeping my same number, so I don't know what options will come up for transferring numbers and setting up new accounts. Although, I believe those options are there. Either someone will answer you here who has accomplished what you need, or you might search the forums to see what experiences you can read about. You can have an iPhone and a regular phone on a family plan.

If it were me, I would be on the phone with AT&T. Where did you buy your iPhone?

I would either call AT&T to handle this, or just sign up for an individual account and then call to add your wife, and convert to a family plan.

I am pretty sure you can set up a family plan with the iPhone at the minutes you want or need, and then add a standard phone(s) to the plan for $9.95 a month without the data plan for those additonal phones lines. A data plan for each of those other lines is $19.95 as I remember. The minutes will be shared between all the phones. Just call AT&T.

I believe he only pays 20 bucks because he has 1 iphone under that plan. Its 20 dollars additional per month for each iphone on the family plan. My guess is that he has 1 iphone and 1 regular phone.

The way we did it was that I bought the Iphone from an Apple Store, we then went to an ATT store and converted our account to the family plan and selected our package. When I registered my Iphone at home via iTunes I got an email back that said more information was needed and gave me a number to call. I called the number, spoke with a very nice lady who needed the number off my SIM and then she manually added my phone to the account. My phone was activated 5 minutes after that.

The whole registration process too no longer than 30 minutes from the time I first hooked it up in iTunes to the time my phone was registered and on the network.

No, the 2nd line (Nokia 6126) isn't used for data (defaults to $0.01 per KB). I would have to pay $19.99 for MEdia Max 200, which includes unlimited data and 200 SMS/MMS.

I went through a two step process. First I bought phones from WireFly online and they transferred my numbers from Sprint to AT&T. I bought the $60/mo voice plan with 2 numbers. After I received and activated the phones under AT&T, I activated the iPhone to replace one of the AT&T lines. Activating the iPhone added another $20/mo for data, so my net monthly cost will be $80 plus taxes and fees.

The number transfer step took a while because WireFly pre-schedule activation to 5 days after they ship the phone. Once the number transfer was complete, iPhone activation was a breeze.

If you don't want to keep your number, the process will be a lot faster. WireFly will ship your new phones pre-activated. All you'll have to do is to activate the iPhone via iTunes.

Just a note for everyone on Family Plans - if you want your Caller ID to state the name of the user of the phone and not the holder of the account you have to call in and ask them to fix it. It defaults to use the account holders name on all the phones instead of the individual using it. 611 from your phone will get you there.

Here is my bad experience to transfer from T-mo Family Plan to AT&T's Family Plan with iPhone.

DO NOT call AT&T to discuss how iphone can combine with Family Plan during transfer. They are totally clueless.

One rep screwed me up by signing individual plans for each line and claimed I can combine the lines after I received the new SIM card from them. THIS IS FALSE! The truth is your accounts will be locked up for 30 days and you will pay the prices for each individual plan.

Not even AT&T higher manager can override this lock. So be careful.

The proper way to do it (after my disaster experiece, my friend decided to do it this way):

Go into AT&T store (or if you have those asian cellphone store around you, that'll be even better. They'll give you $50+ rebate per new line depends on the store policy) Transfer your phone numbers over. Once activated, then activate your iPhone thru iTune.

My friend got $100 rebate (2 lines) for transferring the numbers over and then later activated the iPhone thru iTune w/o problem.

You know this for certain? You've had them do it? Last time I tried this I was told I could either have the name of the account holder show up or nothing but not another name.

Do what I did: I bought an iPhone direct from Apple.

Then I signed up for a family plan with AT&T and got 2 free phones from them, I never mentioned the iPhone. FYI I signed up for this plan over the phone because I was already an old-school AT&T (pre-Cingular) customer out of contract, but a new customer should basically be able to get the same deal.

When the new phones were activated, I activated my iPhone, which took all of 60 seconds and worked flawlessly.

This weekend the free Nokia 6126 AT&T sent me will go on Ebay.
