"No escape from Reality...”
I went yesterday to the AT&T Wireless store to check out the iPhone. No one else was looking at it because of its expensive price. I was able to spend some time with it and the rep was extrememly nice, even though I told her I was still on a contract.

I wish the iPod version of this was out. 8Gigs won't cut it for me, but watching movies on the widescreen, the interface, and coverflow for music is intensely awesome.

Now for the phone. My current phone, of course, has gone the way of popular and has lead to a small phone, tiny buttons, and a tiny screen with too much info.

The iPhone's screen is large, easy to read, and I was able to use the phone with one hand (dial, search for contacts, etc. with my thumb).

I just called T-Mobile to ask when my contract is up. The contact department, needless to say, has been VERY BUSY. I unfortunately have over 14 months left. She asked if there was any problem.

I told her the truth, that I was very happy with my plan, the reception, the phones clarity (I have Windows Mobile), and customer service. But, the phone's buttons are too small and I can't read all the info on the small screen. Then I asked if they are getting the iPhone as I saw one at AT&T and it has the useability I need.

She replied that they have been getting lots of requests for it, but they are not able to supply one. She did say that I can go to the store and look at the PDAs and upgrade. I told her that I didn't think I was eligible for one since I just upgraded.

She said to go to the store and they will do something for me.

Something else interesting is that T-Mobile has reinstated the 1000 minute plan for $40 (which is what I've had for many years).

I would like to see Apple do a lower cost iPhone with just phone functions and make it available to all carriers...

An iPhone without all the 'neat stuff' ... hmmm ... okay but since you'd still need to have all of the components that (now) make up the iPhone it would still have to be priced the same... also a featureless iPhone wouldn't BE an iPhone... Its the 'stuff' it does that makes it what it is...

Well, you wouldn't need as large a form factor (but not too small) and you wouldn't need as much memory or processing power...

Im not sure how the iPhone could be much smaller without ruining the virtual keyboard etc.

I keep hearing people who want an iPhone but without the phone and just an iPod. Or without the iPod and just a phone. But what MAKES the iPhone what it is is the fact that it IS all these different devices all at once.
There are already iPods out there, and there are already phones out there. There isn't a device that's both (and an amazing internet device) all in one, with such an incredible UI.

Sorry... I don't see "just phone" iPhones ever coming out. What's the point?

That's pretty sweet. Now how about a 500 Minutes for $20 plan. I used to have a sweetest unlimited internet plan for $4 a month at TMobile, but I had to leave as I had 0 reception at my new place.

The point is there are a zillion ipods already out there...and 4 and 8 gigs of space is nothing.

The UI is what makes an iPhone and iPhone...not its ipod features.

iPhone nano will be a HUGE hit...Alot of people just want a cool phone...since they own iPods already...and will barely use the iPhone as a music player

Belive it or not....not everyone wants everything in one device....

Plus...its its a 299 dollar item...alot more peopel will jump on the bandwagon.

Gimme the next gen iPhone that include:
The Touch Screen UI
Phone Features
Camera ( include MMS this time )
Internet/E-Mail/Maps?etc
$ 299 Price Point

LOTS of people will be happy.

This mass beta test is exciting, but Apple always gets better with the product....I have no doubt the iPhone will be the same.

I know this.

This is why regular iPods will always be sold in addition to iPhones. And there's a gazillion other cell phones you can still choose from too. The iPhone is specifically for people who want all those devices in one gadget. If you don't, then the iPhone isn't for you.

But you're mentioning some "iPhone Nano" you hope Apple makes...

My question is... why have the touchscreen of the current iPhone, on just a phone that doesn't have the iPod functionality as well? Seems like a waste of technology. You HAVE a widescreen touchscreen, so why not make it also play music and media as well? Do you really think disabling the iPod capabilities is going to make this a much cheaper product?
Or are you saying you want a really tiny, truly nano-like touchscreen? If that's the case, then that's ridiculous. Why make such a tiny toucscreen??

What exactly are you imagining this "iPhone nano" you're talking about actually looking like?

If it's exactly like the current iPhone, but with the iPod capabilities disabled, then that's truly lame.
If it's super-small like a nano, then why does it need a touchscreen?

I'm sorry... I still don't see a "just phone" iPhone ever happening...

I would love an iPhone without the phone :D Wifi internet, iPod and the works would be awesome for me (plus we don't have it in Canada yet and I'm locked in for another 2 years on my contract so...)

so just get an iphone, activate it with gophone and then cancel the plan one month later...
