I've got a few dozen backup folders with the huge random hex names from various phones and backups over the years.

How do I find out which one are for the current phones in the house, and what ones can be deleted?
It seems mad there's no tool to manage backups since the folder is sitting at nearly 100Gb

In iTunes go to preferences and click on devices.

There you will see device backups with date and times as well as specific device and their software version.

Besides iTunes I think you can use iMazing to browse and delete these backups. Should work OK in trial and it will give more info than iTunes.

Are the backups on a local computer and if so is that computer a mac or windows? I know for windows that you can search %data% folder and manual delete backups. If you do this, you only know what the date of the backup is but not what device it was for. It is amazingly awkward and I can't believe apple doesn't have a better system for it.

It's on a PC, and probably have some backups from phones or ipods we dont even have anymore.

I'll have a look in preferences tonight.
