I remember the days when I used to be a BlackBerry fan, the days of the Bold 9700 in particular which had a battery that would last you easily 2 days and I still remember how on forums, members used to mock people with iPhone 3 and 4 saying things like "If you're going to buy an iPhone, make sure you buy 3 charges with it, one for home, one for the office, and one for your car", it was that bad.

Then things started advancing slowly, I then switched to many Android phones, mostly from Samsung and the issue with Samsung phones is they have this strange and horrible standby time, like you would charge the phone to 100%, not touch it, after an hour it's already down to 90% and yes I do turn off background apps that I don't need and do all the tweaks you could think of.

Last phone I had was the Note 10 Plus and while the battery life is great largely due to the fact the battery capacity itself is large (4300mAH), I was blown away with the battery life of my iPhone 11 Pro!

With my moderate usage, the battery easily lasts me 3 days, the standby time is also out of this world. Just last night I charged my phone to 100% and slept, I woke up and found out that I received around 3 emails and a few WhatsApp messages but the phone battery was still at 100%! The standby time on these iPhones is just insane!

I also love how much more control iOS gives you in terms of background apps which is an easy to find setting in the Settings section under General and more importantly how easy it is to define location services access (as in Allow Location Always, while app is running, or Never), I think that also contributes to the amazing battery life.

I love the fact that I can go out and not think twice about battery life or that I need to take my charger with me!

Android, with all its improvement over the years both in Software and Hardware in the latest phones, has a long way to go to reach this kind of battery life in both usage and standby time.

The other amazing thing is that iPhones do this with a smaller battery capacity on paper as well!

The battery tech hasn't changed, sadly. The improvements are down to the efficiency of the silicon & software. I think Apple needs to be applauded as the battery life in my 11 Pro is amazing.

5G will crush battery life though. Hopefully Apple can work a miracle with the 5G modem in the 2020 iPhone.

To be honest, I don't care about 5G. 4G/LTE is more than enough for my needs like VoiP, chatting, small app/OS updates. It's not like I am downloading stuff left and right on a phone and still there is WiFi almost everywhere. I know I might be in the minority but 5G doesn't interest me one bit.

People said the same about 4G and the difference between 4G and 3G was huge.

I think when people experience 5G they will find 4G slow & laggy in comparison. But with the limited & very patchy 5G coverage, 4G will be mainstream for years to come.

It's really amazing what a bigger battery will do. ;)

iPhone 11 3,046 mAh---------------iPhone XR=2,942 mAh
iPhone 11 Pro 3,110 mAh-----------iPhone XS 2,658 mAh
iPhone 11 Pro Max 3,969 mAh------iPhone XS Max 3,174 mAh

It's about time.

Just for comparison, the Note 10+ has a 4300mAh battery but the iPhone 11 Pro with its 3,110 mAh battery gives me way better battery life thanks to the OS optimization.

Apple may have increased the capacity’s off their batteries , however the durability of the batteries has decreased. A “limited” amount of users tend to experience a decent battery lifespan

Either aftermarket batteries have caught up with Apple Genuine battery quality or Apple’s standards has dropped.

I've had my Pro Max since launch. Came from XS Max. Pro Max battery life freaking amazing. I swear battery life is no longer a concern with this iPhone. Hope it only gets better from here on out.

I said this on a different thread:

“I have the Xʀ, but I think that it’s amazing how battery life has improved on iPhones. (Note: all numbers referenced here are my own results, it obviously varies in every single one of us. No obvious background usage is counted (no listening to music with the screen off)).
My first iPhone was the 5s. It got anywhere from 4.5 to 7 hours of usage (brightness, LTE or Wi-Fi, slightly varying usage). Then I upgraded to the 6s. Huge improvement, even if it wasn’t as great as the plus’ battery life that was being shared on here.
It was between 7 and 9 hours of usage. I found that the best improvement was with “heavier” use (LTE and higher brightness), as it didn’t drop to the honestly pretty horrible 4-5 hours my 5s got when pushed. It was slightly better when used lightly. (Let’s say, from around 7-7.5 on the 5s to 8-8.5).
Then I got the 7+. Massive improvement, 10-12 hours depending on usage. I finally had the battery life I wanted.
Now with the xr, it’s even better, I’m getting around 10.5 hours of usage with 40% left, meaning that it would probably be close to 15 hours with light use. That’s at least 3 hours better than the 7+ on iOS 10, possibly more.”
I would like to add: My 7+ on iOS 10’s battery life was all I needed. In fact, it was more than I needed. If Apple were to never improve again, I would be happy. (We know that didn’t happen, this is hypothetical).

The 11 and 11 Pro’s need to be swapped. 11 Pro has the 3,046 mAh battery.
