I had a launch day iPhone 6 and when Apple made battery health available, my 6 said it was at 100%. It reported this for over 4 years of ownership till I got the battery replaced for free.

Now my XR, purchased in June of last year, is still at 100%.

Has anyone experienced this? It can’t be correct I wouldn’t think. Software bug or something? I don’t have a Mac to check it with.

Anyone else? Thanks.

What would you say your usage is like?

I hardly use my iPhones, and my current iPhone is an SE that I had replaced with a refurbished one under AC+ back last summer, it is currently at 100%.

About at the same time, I replaced my Wife's SE with 82% capacity with an SE I purchased when Apple clearance them last year. Originally I purchased it as a backup SE incase something happened to mine or my wife's SE, but ended up giving it to my wife when she started to complain about battery life.

So, she has had an SE the same amount of time as me, and her SE is now down to 90%. She also is constantly on her iPhone.

So, 100% for a long time isn't unrealistic, but maybe this is:

I think that is a long time to have it stay at 100%, even if you do not use it often. Maybe there was some type of SW or HW issue.

till I got the battery replaced for free.
If it was at 100%, why was it replaced?

I got it replaced because it was free. I assumed the 100% reading had to be incorrect after four years. But it seems the incorrect reading has been passed on to my XR through a backup (SW like you say) or something. I dunno. Just wondering if anyone else has experienced the same. Thanks.

Xr bought upon release, still at 98% of design capacity on iMazing. 11 bought in December, at 104% of design capacity.

From my observation on iPads, the initial battery capacity is usually higher than the design capacity. That's why it seems to last at 100% for so long (when it's actually already lost a few hundred mAh).

But an iPhone 6 with at least moderate use for four years still at 100%? seems odd.

I would say so and that's probably why Apple replaced it for free. I'd say after four years of use the battery was probably worn out. My XS Max is about a year old and shows 100%. I don't take much stock in that but as long as my battery is lasting me all day then IDC if it's at 86.5% or 98.7%. It works and unless it didn't work I wouldn't get the battery replaced so the number shown on the screen is irreverent to me.

Any battery measurements is always a guesstimate so you shouldn’t put too much faith in them.

Since the 8 plus days I’ve always had 100% capacity when I upgraded after a year of use. The last night I saw a degrading capacity was on my 6. By the time Apple started the free battery replacement program, I had already sold it.

Here's my six year old iPhone 6 Plus. Original battery (running iOS 9)
Interpret it with skepticism

Honestly, all battery health measurements are just an estimate, especially while the battery is still in the 90%+ range.

The iPhone 6 reading was definitely off. I don't think it carried over to your iPhone Xr, though.

As mentioned, we have a Xr that's ~1.5 years and that one's still at 98% so 100% after a year seems entirely plausible (keeping in mind these devices tend to start at >100%).
