I have an iPhone 7 plus which whilst working well, is now just over 2 years ago. I'll switch devices most likely Sep/Oct 2019, perhaps 2020, so with the current reduced battery swap charge now seems a good time.

I'm currently on 12.1 betas - but I gather iOS 12.1 may be out tomorrow so I've booked a repair appt

Which brings a general question ... for hardware repairs how awkward is it having beta software on the device? Do the store have to skip some of their tests? or refuse to run them? Or backlevel/reset before repair (or at least testing)?

In the States, not an issue.

An Apple service center will caution you that your device may be wiped clean so make sure you back it up to iTunes on your Mac or PC before you leave for your appointment.

It's a CYA move — always possible that your iPhone won't be wiped clean but Apple refuses be responsible for lost data and will make sure that you understand this before they touch your iPhone.
