Has the actual battery technology for iPhones improved say since iPhone 6 or even XS?

I’m not talking about software management of battery, but rather the actual hardware of the battery. Has it improved since the iPhone 6 or iPhone XS? I don’t think I’ve heard anything about it.

Yes, iPhone SE3 (2022) has 12% higher capacity than SE2 even though the battery is the same physical size. This is the result of newer battery chemistry and the cell voltage is now 3.88V. We see this improvement also in the iPhone 13 Pro Max.

While it is still the same base technology (Lithium Ion), the chemistry and thus the density (= higher capacity in the same or even lower size and weight) has been improved quite a lot.
Just as JPack said above 👍

Ok, so sounds like primarily what has improved is density, but the base technology is the same. That's interesting to know.
