Okay, I jailbroke and unlocked my iphone with redsnow, everything went smooth. Was on cydia downloading my usualy stuff, then i downloaded aptbackup cause i had apps before, then when i hit restore it wetn through the process. But then once it rebooted, it never turned back on, i mean the screen is on, but nothing on the menu. I rebooted constantly, get the white apple logo, then after that same thing.

I connected to my computer and it does not pick up, how can i recover my phone please help, its a brand new 3g on 3.0.

Right now i had it on the computer and it just reboot itself, so its stuck in this mode.

disconnect the phone from the computer

start up itunes

with the cord plugged in the phone but not the computer
press and hold the home button.

with the home button pressed now plug the phone into the computer

keep the homebutton press until the phone is recognized (should take 20 seconds or so.)

You're gonna get flamed for saying it's bricked because it's not. Put the phone in recovery mode.

i will try this next time, see what i did was ran redsnow again, and it says "downloading jailbreak data", before the computer would not recongnize the iphone. now i have the pineapple so its jailbreaking. i hope this works, if not ill try your next step. if this works i am going to do a full restore and rejailbreak and start from scratch.

wish me luck guys, i searched but usually people with bricked iphones have the itunes logo, i had nothing, just a blank screen that kept rebooting.

cool.

I can appreciate your situation. One good thing about the iphone its relatively painless to simply start over.

if you ahve a lot of contacts check out an app Funambol. It is a remote contact sync program. great little tool.

well it is bricked cause the screen is still black, nothing. i am hoping its a hardware issue and not a software issue. and yup it just rebooted again, this sucks :(

redsnow did not work, time to try the recovery mode.

thanks man, i put it into recover mode and itunes picked it up. its restoring, but like i said, i hope its a software issue and not a hardware one. right now its restoring to the new firmware, so its downloading it. but once it restores, and it works, gonna downgrade to 3.0 and jailbreak and unlock again. i backed up my phone yesterday, so i just need to restore from backup and i should be good.

but i will keep this thread updated on my status.

No worries, it is not a hardware issue. It's an AptBackup issue, mine did the same thing when I tried to restore my JB apps through it. Stay away from it and you will be fine.

I wouldn't stay away from it, it works as intended. Worked great for me when I went from my 3G to a 3GS. :)

Okay, i left the phone upgrading but when i came back it was off, wasnt even like 10 minutes. So i said a phone does not upgrade that fast, and itunes still not detected it (this is after i did receovery mode and it detected it and downloaded the new firmware). so i did it again and now its restoring iphone software, see the apple logo and the status bar below it.

I am staying away from aptbackup, seems like trouble to me.

then what did i do wrong, i hit restore in aptbackup then it started doing it, said it was going to reboot. then when it did i never got a screen, it turned on but it was blank. my battery was at 20% when i was doing this, could this have been a factor? either way, i got my videos from cycorder and thats all i really wanted.

Do everything except AptBackup restore and my guess is that everything goes fine. Some people get lucky and AptBackup works fine for them. For me, it gave me the same problems you are experiencing and I know how much of a pain it is to do a full restore every time. There must be some JB apps that break AptBackup, unfortunately I don't think anybody knows which ones. I've heard something regarding apps that use MobileSubstrate but I don't know if that is a fact or just someone's guess.

Well from what I read, your post is confusing. You stated you jailbroke and unlocked with redsn0w. This is impossible however since redsn0w and only jailbreak. You'd need ultrasn0w to unlock. :)

Also you posted that you downloaded AptBackup and hit restore. Did you download AptBackup, hit Backup then Backup your phone? Once you upgrade/restore a firmware to your iPhone, you jailbreak it then first thing you download is AptBackup and then you click Restore. Also with this version, you need to jailbreak with redsn0w on 3.0.1 but point it to the original 3.0 downloaded firmware. Are these the steps you have performed?

Sorry for the confusion, i used redsnow to jailbreak, and ultrasnow to unlock. then everything was going smooth, i did the cydia upgrades, and everything was working fine, this was on my new 3G iphone. I had a 2G iphone, and i downloaded aptbackup and did a backup, then once it was done connected it to itunes and did a full backup. then i did the 3G, did a restore from backup, downloaded everything, every was working. then i downloaded aptbackup and did restore, then this is what happened.

Its working again, i am downgrading to 3.0 then going to jailbreak and unlock. So looks like i am back on track, never using aptbackup again.

Thanks for clearing that up. Looks like everything was done correctly. The only thing I can think of is a package you downloaded doesn't work with 3.0 and when AptBackup got it for you, it hosed your phone. Not AptBackup's fault. :)

I too had a few apps that did not work on 3.0 (NES, Stumbler+, etc). NES I had to remove but I was able to get Stumbler+ backup and running fine.

That is not the case for me. The 3GS is my first iPhone so I went from backing up 3.0 jailbreaks and restoring on 3.0 again and it still messed up my phone. I wasn't switching firmware. Guess it will be a mystery that will never be solved.

it will be a mystery, but its all good and working perfectly. thanks guys for your help, i was scared for the moment, but happy to get my 3g working again.
