I experienced a similar issue with my first-gen iPhone, but this time it's the 3G and the symptoms are slightly different.

I cannot hear calls placed, but the person calling me or being called can hear me. Calls cannot be heard over bluetooth or the speakerphone. For my old iPhone I simply inserted headphones into the jack repeatedly, problem solved. It's not so easy this time.

The speaker works, because the phone rings. When I receive texts or e-mails, I hear the corresponding alerts, and I can play music without trouble.

Any idea what the problem is?
Any idea how to fix it?

Thanks very much.
